0:00 Hey, Dr. Jon Finn here. What does he take to become a great leader? It’s not just about your genes, this idea that’s some people just born leaders.
0:19 It’s a bit of a nonsense. I don’t see any babies leading people around. We know that we get good at everything in our lives.
0:29 But our genetic materials are important. But, We have epigenetics which means our genes are malleable and what we practice doing has a much bigger influence on what we get good at than we’ve ever understood until very recent history.
0:48 So what do we need to be practicing if we want to be a great leader? Well we’ve broken it down!
I’m inside The Habit Mechanic book chapter 29.
1:01 We’ve broken it down into four core skills. And this is based on that over 20 years of really digging into what makes people great leaders.
1:17 And I’ve worked with some world class leaders. And the consistency in all those people is that they understand that they can still get better.
1:28 So we can all get better as leaders. Four things we need to focus on. Number one is becoming a better.
1:36 A role model. This is about what other people see you doing. Number two becoming a better swap coach. This is about helping your diet reports.
1:45 Those people that you want to help. Not just to know what it would be a good idea for them to do but to tell them to.
1:52 To build better habits. Number four becoming a cultural architect. This is about understanding how to create a culture that makes it really easy for people to build new powerful.
2:07 Uhh. Habits. And you know the word culture comes from cultivates. It’s about creating literally like the right. You can think of it as the soil conditions to help people to grow and nurture helpful habits.
2:22 And then. Step four, we talk about the action communicator and in fact I went into a bit of detail about becoming a better action communicator in the last uh.
2:34 Having mechanics short video that I did. The good news is that whichever areas you. If you want to work on, you can do it by going to the subsequent chapters in the haven’t micro components that you can analyze yourself on.
2:59 So if you want to become a better leader or what we call a team power leader, these are the areas that you need to work on and what I’ve learned is that you know leadership is not a title.
3:13 It’s a responsibility and everyone in your team from the interns and the graduate sort of words should be working on themselves to become better leaders.
3:23 Not everybody needs to be good at all these four areas. But everyone I’d say as a minimal should be working on themselves to become a better role model and a better action communicator.
3:37 If you’ve got that report, you should also be working to become a better swap coach and if you’re in charge.
3:44 You should be working on yourself to become a better cultural architect. All the answers are inside the habit mechanics so you can check them out yourself.
3:53 They’re the four areas you need to focus on if you want to become a better leader. Bye for now.
